Our partner, Salesian Missions, has been distributing Stop Hunger Now meals to students at the Buterere Vocational Training Center for special events and to Buterere orphans every other day for one year. During a recent visit to Burundi and Rwanda, Stop Hunger Now Aid Distribution Manager Nina DaSilva Batista and Director of Grant and Foundation Relations Jolynn Berk, learned that students who used to cry from hunger are much healthier and happier now.

While conducting field visits in late June to feeding programs supported by Stop Hunger Now, Batista and and Berk heard first-hand that the number of malnourished children has been reduced significantly.

Burundi has 4th lowest GDP in the world. They and Rwanda have endured sustained ethnic violence from the 1980s to 2006. Now, volunteer generosity is used as an example for citizens to give back to the community. Through their flagship technical school, students benefit from a placement program after they graduate. This, in turn, promotes school attendance, completion of vocational programs and self-sufficiency. These programs aid in bridging diversity by post-genocide peace building, serving people of all faiths.
